Chalk Pastel on Canson Paper

Tami Rae Weiss’s first serious steps as a professional artist happened with the medium of chalk pastel as an undergraduate college student on a study abroad trip to London, England. From there, Weiss transitioned to various forms of 2-dimensional media, concentrating on pastels and painting for her senior exhibition.

In 2004, Tami took her first graphic design course at the local technical college where she learned the “art” of Adobe Photoshop. A new passion had emerged, and Weiss found herself adding skills of digital photography and graphic design to her professional repertoire.

In 2012, Weiss took on the role of artist-researcher at the University of Minnesota, where she utilized new media design and arts-based research in the completion of her Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Art Education.

Throughout her career as an art teacher and professor, Tami Rae Weiss has maintained her identity as an artist and designer, frequently returning to her old box of chalk pastels.

Tami Rae Weiss’s pastel work has been selected for numerous juried exhibitions and art awards over the years; and she has received many commissions for her work in this medium, including portraits (mainly), pets/wildlife, landscapes, and still lifes. Contact the artist via the link below to discuss any project ideas you may have.
