Creativity and human connection are at the heart of everything I do.

Creative engagement and transformative learning experiences across education and the arts, I am an educator, artist, writer, speaker, and leader whose work helps people and communities grow through art, inquiry, and connection.

And I like making meaningful things happen. ·

About Tami Rae Weiss

“We’re On Course - Right Here” (or “Fugue for Teachers”) (Covid- 2020). Written and performed by Tami Rae Weiss, PhD, Professor of Art Education; University of Wisconsin-Stout.

What I Do

Creative Leadership

I lead creative projects that connect people, ideas, and purpose. My work includes program development, art direction, and building initiatives with imagination and substance.

Teaching and Development

My teaching experience spans K–12 classrooms and university education, and I care about teaching that is thoughtful, challenging, and human. I value strong relationships, honest feedback, and the kind of support that helps people grow in confidence, capability, and purpose.

Curriculum and Learning Design

I create curriculum with conceptual grounding and clear goals. Through essential questions and enduring understandings, I design interdisciplinary learning that asks students to think critically and creatively, communicate well, and connect what they are learning to the larger world.

Large-Scale Art and Public Projects

I am drawn to large-scale, experiential work that invites people in. From mural projects to community-based installations, I care about creating art that shapes a space, sparks connection, and gives ideas a physical presence in the world.

Speaking and Facilitation

I speak and present in multimodal ways that are thoughtful, humorous, and engaging. Whether in classrooms or before large audiences, I aim to create experiences that are inspiring and memorable.

Writing, Photography, and Book Design

I am drawn to projects that bring together research, writing, image-making, and visual form. My work includes long-form creative and scholarly development, photography, and design. I care about the full arc of a project, not just the words, but how the work looks, feels, and lives on the page.

Since 2010, I have served as a university professor of art education at the University of Wisconsin–Stout, where I teach art education courses, develop curriculum, and prepare future educators for thoughtful, creative practice. Alongside my faculty role, I founded and led Arts Integration Menomonie (A.I.M.), a multi-phase grant initiative that positioned UW–Stout as one of only three institutions in Wisconsin to receive this award.

As principal investigator and executive creative director of A.I.M., I have led vision and strategy, curriculum development, event coordination, public engagement, and long-range program growth. Across every role, I bring together creative leadership, educational innovation, public speaking, curriculum writing, and community collaboration.

At the core of my work is a belief that creativity deepens learning, builds relationships, expands possibility, and helps individuals and communities imagine new ways forward.

In the video above, Dr. Weiss speaks about her grant program as a winner of the Standing Up for Rural Wisconsin Schools, Libraries, and Communities Award from the Department of Public Instruction.
